Samstag/saturday  30. august

zuerst über die grenze, dann permissio für das auto abgeholt was eine halbstündige fahrt durch tij bedeutete( taxi voraus- sonst würden wir heute noch suchen…)

in ensenada relativ fürstlich übernachtet, dann auf der carretera uno weiter bis san quintin. Dort direkt an der bahia im molino viejo übernachtet. Etwas rustikal aber sauber und freundlich

die carretera selbst führt uns zum teil über gebirgstäler, in denen guter wein angebaut wird. Sobald der boden in dieser staubtrockenen gegend bewässert wird, wächst quasi alles…. Nur – woher nehmen die das wasser ? Es regnet praktisch nur im november bis februar.

die mexicaner sind freundliche leute und sehr kommunikativ. 

heading over the border into tijuana. Getting car permission and continuing to ensenada. Nice hotel, not inexpensive but good. Next day 120 miles to san quintin. Beautiful beaches. What a dry country, from where comes the water for the wineyards. 

Donnerstag/freitag aug.

on the way from LA to san Diego we stopped first at a landy car repair in la. British car repair, an independent landy specialist, high professional people (www.britishcarservice.net &. 310-216-3400) nice people

Auf dem weg nach la wie üblich noch bei einem LRspezialisten vorbeigeschaut( siehe oben) sehr nette leute. Danke jason for your help…

dann zu cappy’s cafe am newport beach gefahren, hat aufgrund des verkehrs endlos gedauert aberr schliesslich mussten wir unseren gutschein von gig schmidt &  tommi hillenbrand „verfuttern“. Kennzeichen des cafe’s sind neben gutem essen die bedienungen ( weibl) : ausschließlich knackige californian beach girls, womit auch klar ist, warums dem gig dort so gut gefallen hat vor 30 jahren……

On the beach, which was closed because of heavy waves. Above cappys cafe in newport beach, known for the food plus the good looking waitresses.

thank you, martin hollander for your great hospitality and your music.   Bei martin konnten wir eine nacht in seinem tollen haus in san diego verbringen und dabei einen musikexperten erster güte kennenlernen….

Below picture : 30 years ago on july 17th 1984 at the evening,  my brother martin and me visited a mcDonalds in san ysidro at the border. Couple of hours later a guy run into it an killed 20 people with an automaic gun.

the mcdonaldsbuilding does not exist anymore but now stands a memorial stone at that place. It was important for me to visit that place when i was coming again through that small village

San francisco aug 25th

heute verlassen wir san francisco auf dem HWay 101 über san jose u palo alto richtung los angeles.  viel verkehr, unterwegs ein brennender kleinbus, hoffentlich ist nichts mit den insassen passiert. Gord’n, der beste landrovermechaniker v seattle wird eine linke achswelle nach san diego zu martin hollander denden, damit wir sie dort abholen können. Das achsspiel gefällt mir nicht und lieber habe ichbeine reserve-welle an bord

today leaving sfo means saying goodbye to mary ,?our san franciscan „mutti“ who took so good care of us. On the way south on 101 lots of traffic, but the lsndy runs quiet and easy. Hope hes making it this time better. Burning busvan – hopefully noone get hurt. Tonite we stay in san luis obispo. On wefnesday  we expect our left axle shaft from our best landy mecanic ever , gord’n from lamorna, seattle. Thank you gord’n, we will not forget what you done for us

…..be sure to meet some gentle people there.

for us its always like coming home. Our friends mary and jeff and their outstanding hospitality making us very thankful. So good to see you. Thank you mary for your big help organizing things like car repair or getting informations

nach sfo zu kommen heisst für und irgendwie auch immer ein stück zuhause zu finden. Unsere freunde jeff ind mary ind ihre tolle gastfreundschaft machen uns sehr dankbar.

der landy musste auch mal wieder auf die hebebühne um eine vordere antriebswelle einzusetzen . An dieser stelle

Long way driving from oregon border down to san francisco…420 miles on a car which runs max 65 per hour

600 km von der grenze oregon bis nach san francisco – mit einer karre die maximal 105 läuft. Allerdings mit 2radfrontantrieb ( mangels antriebswelle) läuft das auto ruhiger als mit 4radantrieb
